We are looking for a writer who can write clear instructions while entertaining the reader. We expect the instructions to be about a page long and are for a product that is easy to understand and use. Based on the results of this project, there will much bigger project to follow. a system that is capable of presenting small amounts of instructions at the right time & at the right place while assemblying furniture. a standard (IKEA-style) flatpack wardrobe is extended with light emitting diodes (LED’s) on each board. these LED lights display the assembly instructions in a proactive way by adapting the information with each movement the user makes.

According to Mike Hughes, putting instructional text in the beginning of a form doesn't work. People prefer doing over reading. Our attention is easily drawn to action objects, such as text fields and buttons, causing us leapfrog over instructions.Mike Hughes gives the following recommendations:
- Divide dense instructions up for individual action objects
- Put the appropriate instructions in close proximity to their respective action objects
- Place the instructional text next to the corresponding action object-preferably, in the downstream direction, to the right or just below it ... more »

I attended and spoke at Writing to Win: Plain Language Jury Instructions, sponsored by Washburn University School of Law. It was a great conference, very professionally run. Prof. Lyn Goering there was in charge, and she was superb.<br /><br />More and more states are thinking about plainifying their jury instructions and, of course, change has to come from, or with the approval of, the judiciary. There were a lot of judges there, and that's great. The process here in Texas is still moving along, too. more »

Olav Vitters: MoinMo.in now at 1.6.1 - 4-2-2008 21:04:26
Hours after upgrading moinmoin, they released 1.6.1. This is a very minor upgrade. Took about 5 minutes in total to upgrade the site, including writing instructions for the next sysadmin.
I’ve noticed a few more issues:
There are a around 170 very outdated translated pages. So if you use live.gnome.org in some language other than English the instructions might not work on 1.6.x. The cause seems to be that the upgrade instructions weren’t followed in the past.
Linking to a bug using [[gnomebug:163163]] doesn’t work. Not sure why and #moin is silent.

Did you ever have problems with instructions or guides? Ever tried going through a phone book size manual but still have no ideas on how to do it. I hate it when I’m in that situation. Either it’s the manual poorly written or I’m too stupid to understand it. Remember James Bond movie in year 2002 – Die Another Day, where Bond shoot through the Aston Martin Manual using the car’s target seeking shotguns. Oh I wish I can borrow the car for manual destroying purposes. The same situation sometimes happens while I’m surfing too.
