Yahoo! Slurp 3.0 - 14-4-2008 20:00:00 Over the past few weeks, we've been preparing for the latest version of the Yahoo! Search crawler with some infrastructure updates, which recently caused a variance in our crawl behavior.
With everything now in place, the rollout has officially begun. The new Yahoo! Slurp 3.0 recognizes the same user-agent and all robots.txt directives for 'Yahoo! Slurp,' though it'll identify itself as Slurp 3.0 in your web logs.
As the new software undergoes a phased rollout to our production crawlers over the next several weeks, you'll see the following changes:
a) The crawlers will start crawling from a different more »

Go Ahead, Slurp Away - 14-3-2008 20:44:00 It took me six months of living in Japan before I got used to the traditional practice of slurping my noodles, but the guys at Seattle’s Boom Noodle are hoping it doesn’t take their customers quite that long. To help folks get into the slurp groove, they’ve been known to pass out “slurp goggles” (to protect eyes from soup spray), and even plant slurp-happy friends among diners to “make lots of noise and let people know it’s completely acceptable,” says Executive Chef Jonathan Hunt in a Seattle Post-Intelligencer article titled “more »

Yahoo! Search Crawler, Slurp, is moving - 28-3-2007 16:00:00 Anyone who has seen their web server logs, has seen the Yahoo! crawler come by and leave its mark. It identifies itself as 'Yahoo! Slurp' and its domain is inktomisearch.com. For those of you who follow the search space, you can easily guess that this is one of the last historic remnants from our acquisition of Inktomi a few years ago. Well, the crawler finally decided to move and find a new home. We are moving our crawler from inktomisearch.com to crawl.yahoo.net.
The user-agent will continue to be Yahoo! Slurp, hence you do not need to make any changes to your robots.txt file. Nor are we changing the act more »

Slurp Gets a New Name - 8-6-2007 18:27:00 The Yahoo! Search blog announced a few weeks ago they would be migrating their Web crawler (Slurp) over to a new domain. That transition is now complete and all YahoO! machines are (and will be) coming from crawl.yahoo.net. This change does not cover Yahoo!'s other crawlers including those from Yahoo! China or others which cater to specific verticals such as Yahoo! Shopping or Yahoo! Travel which have their own user-agent. Yahoo! is encouraging sites to setup reverse DNS-based authentication of its crawler to ensure no rogue bots masquerade as Slurp. They provide a goo... more »

Collection of industrial music - 5-10-2006 6:20:59 Mark Frauenfelder:
In August, WFMU's Beware of the Blog released this nice collection of "product music" MP3s.
The album Product Music: Vol 1 is a collection of memorable examples of the industrial song. Because if you're not buying a company's product, perhaps a few listens to their new dance tune will change your mind!
The songs range from mellow dance tunes ("The Frito Twist") to manic dance tunes ("Dance The Slurp", with its frenzied cries of "SLURP SLURP!!!") to haunting ballads (the somewhat disturbing "My Bathroom Is A Private Kind of Place", one of three tunes in the compilation from American Standard's classic industrial musical The Bathrooms Are Coming!).
